Class of 1983

Christine Cowie (nee Winn) (French Studies)
I would really love to hear from anybody who remembers me. Get in touch and let’s hear your news!

Marion Hart (English)
Having settled in Northumberland five years ago (best decision we ever made) my son Dan, partner Bill, and I take maximum advantage of everything this beautiful area has to offer, in between work as a Community Care Projects Manager (me) and Energy Consultant (Bill). Still good mates with Rosemary Townend (nee Green, Botany/Geology ’82). Love to hear from anyone who remembers me.

Paul Major (Chemistry)
Successfully found semi-retirement on leaving Hull by running a Forestry Commission campsite. (I knew a chemistry degree would be useful!) Now have my own company which manages all the FC’s camps in the New Forest. Still not working all year – excellent. Gives me time to travel, recently to Peru, Central America and Vietnam. Married to Jacquie and have five children.

James O’Hanlon (European Studies)
After leaving Hull, I studied computer sciences in Stafford for two years. From 1985 I started work as a computer programmer in Stoke-on-Trent with Michelin Tyre. In 1987 I moved to London to work for a software house, which I finally left in 1998 after spending eight years working for clients across Europe and North America. Since 1998 I have worked freelance as a computer consultant specialising in insurance applications. This work brought me to Tokyo at the beginning of 2000. Tokyo is a wild city and I am really enjoying it, in spite of the sushi. The language is a bit of a bitch though. I’d like to say hi to anyone who remembers me and I would welcome email. It would be good to see how everyone is getting on.

Ian Smith (Economic and Social History)
After seven years as vicar of St John’s Leyland I am moving for a short term appointment in the parish of Goole, only 25 miles from Hull.

Timothy Welch (English)
We’ve been married and living in Birmingham for over 10 years now. We’ve got four kids and would love to hear from anyone who’s prepared to buy us a drink.

Vanessa Welch (nee Lakey) (Sociology)
See Timothy Welch, Class of 1983.
