Class of 1989

Jeremy Ashberry (French and German)
For the last three years I’ve turned my back on journalism and have run the press office at the new University of Lincoln. I still visit Hull regularly as we have 3,000 students at what used to be Humberside Uni. I’m married to Vicky and have two beautiful and entertaining kids – Alexander and Emily.

Alan Cain (Psychology)
After graduation I spent a term at Sandhurst followed by three years teaching outdoor pursuits in Wales and the South of France. Between ’93–’94 I went to Sheffield University, obtaining an MSc in Sport and Recreating Management. I then joined Ladbrookes and ended up as a Systems Accountant, passing my CIMA finals in 1998. I’ve since worked in the same role for both AIG and CMP Information. On January 14th 2001 I became a father to Jonathan Derek Cain, by my girlfriend Linda. Best wishes to everyone, especially the Karate Club.

Richard Dodd (Management)
Travelled around the worl in 1990, Bournemouth University ’91–’92, Tesco Stores, IT Division 1992. Married Helen Mackenzie (Hull ’89) in 2000. Still in touch with Phil Hatch, Mich Hawkins, Tony Ceasar, Gill Dawson, Tim Walsh, Karen Peake (Halford). Would love to hear from Tommy, Waiyee, Sally.

Angela Edgar (nee Farrington)
Living on the Isle of Skye with partner (since 2000).

Michael Fieldhouse (Geography)
Worked in various industrial geography related jobs for six years after graduating before training to become a teacher. Currently Head of Geography at a large comprehensive school in Malvern, Worcs. Also happily married to Jo with two lovely daughters, Rose and Daisy.

Alison Fry (European Studies)
After graduating from Hull I went on to do an MA in Literature and Politics at Osnabrück University in Germany, graduating in 1991. Following my MA I decided to settle in Germany and, after a number of moves, have been living in Hamburg since 1994. I married a German (Andreas) in August 2000 and am enjoying life to the full. I would like to hear from anyone who did European Studies with me – especially from Bridget Parker (nee Ingham) or anyone who is in touch with her.

Audrey Howes (Regional and Local History)
Author of ‘Town and Gun: The 17th Century Defences of Hull’ by Audrey Howes and Martin Foreman – December 1999 – Kingston Press.

Anthony Miah (Computer Science)
Married and expecting first child, December 2001. Recently moved to Shefford, Bedfordshire.

Shyama Prasad (Drama)
Award winning filmmaker in India. Directed more than 10 films for TV and theatrical exhibition. Currently filming a Hollywood film featuring British actor Steven Berkoff. Check website www.shyamaprasad.com

Peter Smith (Accounting)
After 12 years in the accountancy profession, largely with Deloitte & Touche in Leeds and Newcastle, I joined the law firm Dickinson Dees in Newcastle to set up a new venture. Living in the undiscovered wilderness of Northumberland with wife, Victoria, and three kids – the television is always on the blink! Still in touch with Adrian Spencer, Jonny Wells, Bill Adams, Mark Adkins and Russ Bennett – usually via an annual visit to a Test Match. Regards to the Nicholson and Grafton Street crowds that I knew and the cricket boys. Probably be another 12 years before I make a further submission.

Martin Stevenson
Since graduating I have been working all round Europe in the oil industry, first as a geologist then as a drilling fluids engineer (or as the oil field term goes, a ‘mud man’). On the 26 September 2001 I finally became a responsible adult when my wife gave birth to our beautiful little daughter.

Jayne Wackett (Classical Studies)
After six years living in Italy I am currently teaching part time and using my free days to paint and maintain various gardens.
