Class of 1990

Ammar Balkar (MSc Information Management Systems)
Back from Hull 1990, started with Royal Jordanian Airlines and then moved to Arab Wings, established Royal Wings Airlines, a subsidiary for Royal Jordanian. Since May 2001 started my own private jets programme in Amman, Jordan. ammar@cejets.com

Paul Brown (Chemistry)
11 years on and still down south. I’m still with the same company, though have been through a few jobs within it. Have recently started on an MBA – just got to get the brain working again. Hello to Ferens ’87, Chemistry ’90 and of course you Sharp St Superstars.

James Clegg (Physics)
Well, Sarah and I are still happy. We now have four children and I am teaching Physics in Bradford. So I am poor. Well in money anyway. jacphyzz@currantbun.com

Andrew Crichton (Geography)
Made the long trip from Bermuda to celebrate 10th anniversary of graduation. Actually think beer prices have gone down in the interim. Apologies to everyone we met.

Jean-Regis Czichos-Bonnin (formerly Llewellyn-Bonnin) (MA Political Philosophy)
Am hoping to go to India for the December 2002 solar eclipse. You may remember – Dogger Fisheur German Bite – are releasing our fourth (and final) album: ‘The Bite Has It’. Should be out end of 2001. Played at the eighth annual music and cultural festival in Leipzig DDR, called ‘ZORO’, and went down pretty well. Everything’s going well, I spent summer 2001 in Brighton, Avebury, Cornwall and finally Amsterdam. Hello to all – especially Martin O – where are you now?

Barrie Dickinson (Engineering)
Left Hull in 1990 and joined Jaguar Cars where I spent an enjoyable seven years before moving to Norfolk and joining Lotus Engineering. I’m now doing all sorts of interesting work on our own products (Elise/Esprit etc) as well as working on vehicles for other car manufacturers. Got married in 1994 and now have a little boy Joseph.

Alastair Haigh (Biology)
Working in management for a pharmaceutical company. Just had a son with Julie, getting married 2003 (wrong order?). Get in touch, Dom, Dave, Helen, Kate, Martyn etc – ALASTAIRHAIGH@TOTALISE.CO.UK

Darran Holloway (Engineering)
After spending three years developing flight simulators in Crawley I returned to Ulverston in June 1998 to be with my Cumbrian girlfriend. I’m currently developing marine data communication systems for BAE Systems.

Gordon Irons (Chemistry)
After four years in Dorset (environmental/ water analysis), I moved into Mass Spec Manufacture. With a second change of employer I appear to have settled in Manchester with a stable job. Still single – spare time spent with the National Trust – voluntary conservation work.

Amanda Jobbins (Business Studies)
Hi anyone from my year. Particularly Bev Meiers – the fencing gang and anyone else who remembers me. Well done to Eluned for being such a successful politician! I’m very impressed.

Christopher McLean (Philosophy) 1990
Anyone out there remember me from 1990? Part time philosophy students; part time HUSSO/Drama Society/Union Hack/Nightline member. Full time drinker. Now married, two kids, large mortgage and working as an intensive care nurse in Portsmouth. chrismclean@wight365.net

Alan Miles (Engineering)
I was made redundant in February 2001. I started a position in Halifax, Nova Scotia, as a programmer as of October 2001. As a consequence of my job change, I moved from Calgary to Halifax, but I am enjoying the change of scenery. I can be contacted via email at: alanmiles@hfx.eastlink.ca

Derek Proud (German)
After graduating I worked for two years as a technical translator in Kiel, Germany, before returning to the UK to do the Institute of Export exams. That led me into the steel industry, ending up as Export Sales Manager at a cast iron foundry. Now I’ve completed a PGCE and start to teach German and French in a Rotherham school in September 2001. I married Selina in 1995 and we have a four-year-old son called Alex. Anyone can contact me on derek@proud67.freeserve.co.uk or phone 01226 761553.

Marcus Symons (Social Policy)
I’m now working in London for the DTI, but still live on the south coast near Brighton. Might be on the move soon. I seem to have lost touch with everyone. Would be great to hear from anyone who was at Needler (’87–’89) (Terry, Bez, Gordon – where are you?)!
