Welcome to our new summer edition of Gradlink.

Professor David J Drewry Vice-ChancellorWhenever I meet the University’s alumni I am always delighted by the enthusiastic reception I receive and to find groups of friends eager to share memories of their connection with the University and hear of our plans for the future. The University of Hull is truly a place ‘where friendships are made for life’.

It is my goal to build on that support and establish a University fit for the challenges of the 21st century. As the University approaches its 75th anniversary, we need all the assistance you can provide to turn this vision into a reality – by developing our institution into one of high reputation and high performance.

Many of you have already made donations to the Annual Fund appeal and others have offered financial assistance in support of research and improved facilities. I should like to offer my thanks to each and every one of you. As you know, all donors to the University are invited to the Founder’s Day Benefactors’ Dinner, and I hope to meet many more of you in the future at this annual event.

Gradlink magazineHowever, I should also like to encourage our group of alumni and friends to help to build a stronger national and international network. Through the formation of alumni groups, we can spread news of our successes, encourage the recruitment of students and help these students into careers.

Alumni associations form the basis of the University’s relationship with its graduates and friends, allowing formal channels of communication through which it can present and test its proposals, communicate the challenges that face it, and further enhance its reputation as a world-class university. If there is an alumni group in your area, please join it; if one does not exist, please help us to establish one. The Development and Alumni Relations Office will be delighted to offer assistance and advice, so please do not hesitate to contact them for further information.
