Welcome to our second edition of In Partnership, the newsletter
designed to keep you, our supporters, in touch with the University
of Hull.
The University now has more than 1,500 donors, and I hope this
number will grow year by year. Your support is invaluable not only
for the financial assistance you provide but also for your confidence
in our mission and in our ethical stewardship of your gift. These
factors empower us to build an institution prepared for the challenges
of the new century.
The recently-published White Paper on The Future of Higher Education
makes it abundantly clear that we can expect very little additional
financial support from government sources. The requirement is therefore
on us to find the additional support we need, either through student
fees or by appealing to our community of friends and alumni.
It is highly likely that our current and future students will graduate
with substantial debts which may take many years to repay. We know
that this has caused many potential students to question the value
of a university education, particularly those from less wealthy
families. It is therefore my personal ambition to build an endowment
fund of sufficient size to ensure that we can assist and support
all students of merit to attain their highest academic potential.
In this, our 75th anniversary year, I am appealing to all our
graduates and friends to support my goal. Please help us to make
this year, in particular, the foundation upon which an endowment
fund can be established for the future.
